DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a system for checking the genuineness of an email message using a digital signature. When DKIM is activated for a certain domain name, a public key is published to the global DNS system and a private one is stored on the email server. When a new email message is sent, a signature is generated using the private key and when the email message is delivered, the signature is validated by the receiving server using the public key. Thus, the recipient can easily recognize if the email is authentic or if the sender’s address has been spoofed. A discrepancy will appear if the content of the email has been modified on its way as well, so DKIM can also be used to ensure that the sent and the received messages are identical and that nothing has been added or deleted. This email validation system will increase your email safety, as you can confirm the genuineness of the important emails that you receive and your colleagues can do the same with the email messages that you send them. Based on the particular mail service provider’s adopted policy, a message that fails to pass the examination may be erased or may enter the recipient’s inbox with a warning notification.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Website Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail feature is activated by default for all domain names that are hosted in a cloud website hosting account on our cloud servers, so you won’t have to do anything on your end to activate it. The only condition is that the given domain name should be hosted in an account on our platform using our NS and MX resource records, so that the e-mail messages will go through our mail servers. The private key will be created on the server and the TXT record, which contains the public key, will be published to the global DNS database automatically, so you won’t have to do anything manually on your end in order to enable this feature. The DomainKeys Identified Mail email authentication system will allow you to send trustworthy e-mails, so if you’re sending a newsletter or offers to clients, for example, your email messages will always reach their target viewers, whereas unsolicited 3rd parties won’t be able to spoof your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers

Our semi-dedicated hosting plans come with DomainKeys Identified Mail enabled by default, so if you select a semi-dedicated server plan and you add a domain using our name servers through your Hepsia Control Panel, the records required for the email authentication system will be set up automatically – a private encryption key on our email servers for the digital signature and a TXT record carrying the public key for the Domain Name System. Since the DKIM protection is set up for a particular domain, all addresses created under it will carry a signature, so you will not have to worry that the email messages that you send may not be delivered to their target email address or that someone may forge any of your email addresses and try to scam/spam people. This may be quite important if you use electronic communication in your business, since your associates and/or clients will be able to distinguish real email messages from phony ones.
